Making a splash

After 2025, Wavy Quines exceeded our initial engagement expectations. With over 200 women and girls participating in sessions, the support we received was really overwhelming. When the group first started in 2022, we had no idea how many people would benefit from our community group.  From health and fitness to how their mental state has improved through surfing and being part of the blue scene.

Following this support, we had a bit of a conundrum. As the group is fully voluntary, the community already demanded a lot of time from only a few individuals. The group recognised that the community still needed to exist. We asked the community what we could do to make this season even better, and the response was immense, with a strong need for consistency.

The group put together a crew of women who are dedicating time out of their busy lives to work behind the scenes to help establish the consistency our community has asked for! We’ll be hosting sessions every single month to keep our community growing strong.

Moving forward, we wanted our new monthly socials to be suitable for all our participants, whether you’re catching your first wave or you’re a seasoned pro. But the problem with living in the North East of Scotland is that the "wave goddesses" can be unpredictable, so to combat this, we’re planning more than just surf sessions. We’ve got a roster of talented women in the group, which means we can offer much more than a space for surfing. We can dip our toes further into other activities such as surfskating and snorkeling, or rock pooling, or just a chilled coffee and chat, we’re meeting up no matter what the swell looks like.

We wanted to create a sense of community consistency that allows us to build connections without the pressure of not knowing where to start or feeling nervous around new people, let alone a new sport.

It’s really starting to blossom into a powerful, caring sense of home for our community, and we’re so proud of where it is going. The crew is super excited to explore how this year can expand into our wider community, too.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, we can’t thank you enough.
